Summer plans...

Since P and I will be pretty busy this summer we are thinking about having a container garden. It sounds like the best plan so far. I'm thinking about planting some tomatoes for sure. Hopefully squash, cucumbers and other such things. I'm oddly excited about it. Especially since the maintainance will be minimum compared to what we had last year.

It's Cold Out There...

Winter is upon us here in the Midwest. Just in time for P and I to get back from Miami. It was wonderful there. Eighty degrees with a cool breeze. We went to the Zoo, and the beach. We go engaged. Big news that! :D

Garden update!

Well, it's nearly the end of July, and all sorts of things are becoming ripe. Our Tomatoes have been doing good. So has the okra, pepper, and butternut squash. Sadly the summer squash, zucchini, and cucumbers all seem to be a disaster this year. We have not gotten anything from the plants!

The blueberry harvest was not nearly as good as it was last year, but the peaches, raspberries, and blackberries have all done wonderfully. :D We got to make a lot of muffins from them!

Hopefully we will also be canning soon.

This years garden!

To view full image: My Garden Chart

This year our actual tillage siz is smaller, but we actually have more plants, and more variety since we decided not to cultivate any corn this year. It was actually quite a disaster last year! It ripened really early, and went wormy almost immediately.

This year we are also trying a lot of varieties of heirloom, and hybrid tomatoes! And also a few types of plants that we did not try last year such as broccoli, watermelon and okra.

JackPot!

I went to Croy Creek Traders fair in the hopes of finding some more cages for my rats. Instead I found two nice sized wash tubs! :D Which I am going to turn into little water gardens! :D I already have reeds in them. I will be adding water lilies, and hopefully water lettuce or water marigolds soon. The bigger of the two has some goldfish in it.
10 common goldfish, actually. I'm not going to invest in any Koi until I know I have it down, and I am not going to kill them. They are so expensive! Oh an pardon how bad the area looks around the tubs. I still need to put down mulch and fix it.

I am also going to add trapdoor snails, freshwater clams, and frogs! :) I really love frogs.

I also picked up a tiny 1 1/2 inch vase for my "Tom Thumb" entry in the fairs flower show. There are 4 boquets in the refrigerator right now. And I have 3 potted entries ready.

I have also been very busy working on terrariums!

As Luck would have it...

As Luck would have it there will be a flower show at the Clay County Fair! I am very excited! I shall be entering 3 terariums in the house plant division, and a flower in the Misc cut flower division, as well as a few of the flower arranging classes. More on that later!
